General Requirements

Australia Awards applicants must meet all eligibility requirements detailed in the Australia Awards Scholarships Policy Handbook, available here.

General Requirements for the Australia Awards Garuda Scholarships

  • be an Indonesian citizen and be residing in and applying for the scholarship from Indonesia.
  • not be married or engaged to a person who is eligible to hold Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent resident status, at any stage of the application, selection, mobilisation processes or while on scholarship in Australia.
  • not be applying for a visa to live in Australia.
  • Not have previously received a long-term Australia Awards Scholarship in the previous four years.
  • have satisfied any specific criteria established by Indonesia or the Government of Indonesia.
  • not be current-serving military personnel.
  • be able to satisfy all requirements of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection for a DFAT student visa.
  • Already hold an undergraduate degree.
  • Answer all relevant questions on the application form.
  • be willing and available to undertake full-time (Monday - Friday from 8 am to 4 pm) English for Academic Purposes (EAP) training in Indonesia prior to studying in Australia if offered a scholarship.

  • Applicants must have successfully completed, or be currently undertaking, the Teacher Professional Certification (Pendidikan Profesi Guru – PPG), and be based in one of the following provinces:
    • East Nusa Tenggara/NTT
    • Bangka Belitung
    • North Kalimantan
    • Southeast Sulawesi
  • Applicants show a commitment to relocate for placement at an SGB school*.

* Please note that selection for this program does not guarantee placement. Candidates will be required to undergo a separate, formal selection process for SGB teacher positions in the future, in accordance with government regulations.

TOEFL ITP: 500

TOEFL iBT: 52

PTE Academic: 45

Grade Point Average (GPA)

3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Other requirements

  • Recommendation Letter:
    • Government School Applicants: Letter provided by the Department of Education at the provincial level.
    • Private School Applicants: Letter provided by the Headmaster or the Head of the Foundation.
  • Personal Statement: A signed statement confirming the applicant's willingness to be allocated to SGT or SGB schools anywhere in Indonesia.
