Recently Returned Alumni Reconnect and Recharge at the 2025 Reintegration Workshop

Returning home after years of study in Australia can be both exciting and challenging. To support newly returned Australia Awards scholars in navigating this transition, Australia Awards in Indonesia (AAI) hosted the 2025 Reintegration Workshop, a hybrid program designed to equip alumni with the tools, confidence and networks they need to thrive back in Indonesia. The workshop also prepared them to contribute meaningfully to Indonesia’s inclusive and sustainable development, while strengthening cooperation between Australia and Indonesia.

Bringing together over 200 scholars across both online and offline formats, the workshop fostered a vibrant space for learning and connection. The program began with two virtual sessions on 18 and 22 September, where participants explored goal-setting, action planning and strategies for managing reverse culture shock.

The online discussions set the stage for deeper engagement at the in-person workshop in Jakarta on 26–27 September 2025, which formed the heart of this year’s reintegration journey. Over two dynamic days at Hotel Grand Mercure, participants immersed themselves in interactive sessions that celebrated their achievements while equipping them for the next phase of their professional and personal growth.

Highlights included a warm welcoming remarks by Sankalp Sheikar, First Secretary at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, who emphasised the importance of alumni contributions to strengthening people-to-people links between Australia and Indonesia. The program also featured ‘Storytelling for Impact’, where participants learned to reframe their scholarship experiences into compelling narratives with Dr Elena Williams, Public Diplomacy and Partnerships Adviser, Australia Awards in Indonesia and Australian Alumna Raissa Almira. In addition, a ‘Public Diplomacy and Alumni Role’ panel brought together distinguished alumni Professor Evi Fitriani, Dr Akhmad Firmannamal and Ida Ayu Prasasti.

Day two shifted gears to professional development, with KPI Consultancy leading engaging workshops on influence, communication styles and practical career skills. Alumni also honed their CVs, LinkedIn profiles and interview techniques through hands-on coaching.

The workshop culminated with alumni joining the much-anticipated ‘Gig on the Green 2025’, where learning blended into celebration, strengthening bonds among alumni while showcasing the vibrancy of the Australia-Indonesia alumni community.

With renewed confidence, stronger networks and actionable reintegration plans, participants left the workshop ready to apply their skills and experiences toward their personal goals, while keeping their ties with Australia alive and thriving.
