Join Our Guest Lecture on ‘Preventing Child Sexual Abuse: A Public Health Perspective’

How can Indonesia strengthen efforts to prevent child sexual abuse and better support children, families and communities affected by violence?

Join the online guest lecture, ‘Preventing Child Sexual Abuse: A Public Health Perspective’, delivered by Dr Amy Young from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), on Friday, 3 July 2026 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm (Jakarta time).

In this lecture, Dr Young will explore child sexual abuse (CSA) as a significant yet often under-recognised public health issue in Indonesia. Drawing on a population-based perspective, she will discuss the prevalence, risk factors and long-term health consequences of CSA, including its impacts across generations. The session will highlight evidence linking experiences of CSA to adverse maternal health outcomes, such as unintended pregnancy, obstetric complications, maternal depression and increased vulnerability to intimate partner violence.

Dr Young will examine how a comprehensive public health approach can help prevent and respond to CSA, from education and early intervention to trauma-informed care for survivors. The session will also explore Indonesia’s current policy landscape, ongoing challenges and opportunities to strengthen prevention efforts through greater collaboration and culturally sensitive, evidence-informed strategies.
