Advocacy for Public Awareness on Indigenous Slavery and the Abolition of Systemic Poverty in Sumba

Project Rationale:
I studied the discrimination against the indigenous-slave caste in Sumba as part of my PhD thesis at The Australian National University and found that most of the slave caste is still under some sort of bondage. The caste gap in development outcomes in Sumba is the highest compared to Bali and India castes. Most recently, there are incidents of selling of slaves to high government officials in the Island. There is no public awareness campaign concerning the slavery practice yet. The slavery is masked under indigenous wisdom or practices.
Project Beneficiaries:
50 youths-university students, 10 ada communities and 10 CSOs in Central and East Sumba.
