Project leader: Mrs. Suriawati
Level of education and university: Bachelor, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology
Collaborating Organisations: CushCush Gallery (Suriawati is a co-founder)
Project Location: Bali
Activity Type: Research & Development and innovation
Sector: Small and medium enterprise development, Rural Growth
Project Rationale:
Bali has always been known for its rich culture and variety in terms of indigenous craft. However, due to the increasing prevalence of tourism and the better job prospects that it provides, many of the younger generation turn away from the villages and traditional craft. In recent times, often only the older generation can be found still practicing the different ancient crafts of weaving (textile, natural fibers, basketry, etc). Without any intervention, these traditional crafts will easily die out.
Project Beneficiaries:
Traditional craft weavers and artisans in various villages and their families. (Seraya village, Kamasan village, Bona village, Kayubihi village, Tenganan village)
Priority Development Area:
Economic institutions and infrastructure
