Project Rationale:

East Java is the centre of the cattle and dairy industry in Indonesia. According to the Bureau of Statistics in 2019, the cattle population was 4,763,182 heads and the dairy population 280,364 heads in East Java. To have adequate forage for such a large population, a consistent supply of forage is needed. However, based on a research survey conducted by The Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Promoting Rural Incomes through Support for Markets in Agriculture (PRISMA) in 2019, there was a shortage of supply of forage in the dry season. This disrupts the productivity of traditional farms that still use the cut and carry principle on land owned by the government or local people. The shortage of forage supply allegedly happened due to the difficulty of accessing water resources during dry season. Because of this problem, land management is needed to achieve stability to make adequate forage for livestock needs.
