Australia Awards in Indonesia

Australia Awards adalah beasiswa dan studi singkat bergengsi yang bersifat transformatif, diberikan kepada para pemimpin masa depan untuk menempuh studi, penelitian, dan pengembangan profesional di Australia

Panduan

ILLA ambassadors are supported by Australia Awards in Indonesia before and during their engagement with Australian schools and universities. AAI assists in the following ways by Matching students with an Australian school or university;

  • Assisting with obtaining all relevant working with children/vulnerable people checks, as well as any requirements of the school or university;
  • Conducting an orientation session and mentoring for all ILLA ambassadors prior to commencement, setting expectations, providing guidelines, practical advice, and possible activities to be discussed with the school or university; and
  • Providing a point of contact during the period of engagement with the ILLA program.

Australia Awards in Indonesia supports schools and universities before and during the program, by:

  • Matching schools or universities with an Indonesian Australia Awards Scholarship recipient;
  • Ensuring ILLA ambassadors complete all mandatory checks and provide all required information to schools or universities;
  • Providing an information pack prior to an ambassador’s commencement, including all necessary documentation; and
  • Providing a point of contact during the period of engagement with the ILLA program.

HOW OFTEN DO ILLA VISITS OCCUR?

ILLA ambassadors are full-time Master's and PhD students who may also have other commitments (part-time work or caring responsibilities).

We encourage flexibility among both hosts and ambassadors to ensure that everyone’s preferences can be accommodated. During the expression of interest process (EOI), there is an opportunity to indicate preferences.

Final details will be discussed and negotiated between the school or university and the ILLA ambassador, facilitated by the Australia Awards in Indonesia team.

Flexibility is key!

Regular visits (e.g. weekly) will generally result in deeper engagement and more sustainable outcomes. However, that doesn’t preclude shorter, more intensive engagements (e.g. 3-4 intensive days) if it suits both parties. For example, intensive periods of engagement during a single trip may be more suitable for schools or universities in regional areas, as ILLA ambassadors are more likely to need to travel significant distances from their home location. Shorter, intensive engagements may also better suit an ambassador during university semester breaks, for example.

HOW MUCH DOES ILLA COST?

  • There is no cost to schools or universities to participate in the ILLA program.
  • This is a voluntary program intended to build networks, professional confidence and intercultural competence, and increase awareness of Australian culture and communities.
  • ILLA ambassadors will be provided with some financial support to cover transport, meals, and activities as required, according to AAI guidelines.

WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE SUPPORTED BY ILLA?

A broad range of activities are possible, depending on students’ year level and language abilities, and the interests and background of each ILLA ambassador.

Key objectives of the ILLA program are to:

  1. Engage and inspire students in Australian schools or universities with authentic experiences of contemporary Indonesian people, cultures, language and stories, and learning resources; and
  2. Provide students in Australian schools or universities the opportunity to engage with a native Indonesian speaker.

Some activity ideas might include, but are not limited to:

  • Primary schools: arts, crafts, games, dance, song-based activities, sharing stories of Indonesian life, cultural holidays, and food.
  • Secondary schools: sharing cultural activities and stories, photographs and videos of daily life in Indonesia, with an increased focus on language as students’ abilities become more advanced.
  • Senior secondary schools: providing Year 11 and 12 students with opportunities to prepare for and practise  oral exams according to pre-determined topics of conversation.
  • Universities: engage with other relevant academic disciplines, bringing the Indonesian perspective to students undertaking programs in international relations, politics, psychology, allied health or other disciplines through guest lectures, buddy mentoring or other activities.

In addition, ILLA ambassadors may also assist students at all levels, to participate in the annual National Australia-Indonesian Language Awards (NAILA) competition, refining their entries prior to submission.

These are some suggestions, but please do talk to our team if you are seeking some tips, or if you have other ideas – we would love to hear them!
