Project Rationale:
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are seeing parents from low class urban families struggling to provide healthy foods for their children. This can be caused by multiple reasons: 1) during the COVID-19 pandemic, buying power of parents from low class urban families is low and healthy foods tend to be expensive, 2) as most parents from low class urban families are both working, they don't have time to cook healthy meals for their children. As a result, parents tend to choose unhealthy processed foods or simply buy fast food.
This further drags down the importance of having healthy foods for children. Without adequate nutrition, children are at risk of diet-related chronic illness, such as obesity and type II diabetes.
Representatives of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF, May 2020) said that before the pandemic there were around 2 million Indonesian children suffering from malnutrition and more than 7 million children under the age of five who are stunted in Indonesia. In fact, UNICEF estimates that the number of children with acute malnutrition under five years of age could increase by 15 percent by 2021 if no action is taken.
