Nowadays, education is faced the rapid development of technology. Every generation has to answer this challenge in order to be able to compete and be successful in this challenge. Not only students, but also every people should deal with this issue. To answer this challenge, we are sure that STEM is the stepping stone and right solution. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. It is learning approach that integrates those four subjects. STEM is very useful to improve students’ 21st Century Skills and to students’ future careers. Therefore, it is very important to introduce and implement this learning approach to children as well as parents to produce better human resources though education. Joho is the nearest village from SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics, our institution. As we have observed, we found that there are only few activities that involve children and parents especially activities that motivate children to learn as well as to improve creativity. As the institution that concern about education, we plan to give contribution to people where our institution takes place and STEM is the best concept to deal with this.
The proposed project is Kampung STEM Joho or Joho STEM Village. The project is about giving STEM activities to children, teenager, and parents in Joho Village. We have started this project since November 2018 and we hope that it can still continue and sustain in the future. In this first year we focus on giving activities for children and mother. We do really expect that by giving STEM activities, people in Joho Village can improve their skills and creativity.
