Tourism professionals from 15 provinces in Indonesia have shared their lessons and experiences in responding to how the COVID-19 crisis has hit their industry. Meeting at the Australia Awards post-course workshop in Bogor last month, they explored the way forward for sustainable tourism.
The tourism professionals from Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Maluku, Papua and Nusa Tenggara attended the Australia Awards Short Course on Sustainable Tourism Management in August – November last year, organised virtually by Griffith University. During the course, they explored the concept of sustainable tourism in the global context and the importance of responsible consumption in the sector. The group also learned to develop tourism strategies and analysed key drivers that enable and limit development in the tourism sector, to contribute to economic recovery in their provinces.
