Offline Brainstorming Session: GEDSI Alumni Network Forum on 31 July 2024 at Mercure Hotel, Jakarta |
The Australian Gender Equity, Disability Inclusion, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Alumni Network Forum held its first discussion in Jakarta on 31 July, bringing together Australian alumni from various sectors: government, NGOs, the creative industry, grassroots movements, and other sectors to ensure diverse perspectives. The formation of the forum is part of AAI’s strategy to enhance alumni knowledge and skills on GEDSI. This aligns with its broader goal of empowering a diverse alumni community to drive inclusive and sustainable development in Indonesia, while also strengthening diplomatic ties between Indonesia and Australia. |

Hybrid Inaugural Meeting of the GEDSI Alumni Network, Bridging the Gap: Strengthening Access to Education for Women from Disadvantaged Backgrounds on 21 November 2024 at JS Luwansa Hotel, Jakarta |
The GEDSI Alumni Network, supported by the Australia Awards in Indonesia, hosted a half-day knowledge-sharing event to advance Gender Equity, Disability Inclusion, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) by addressing the challenges faced by women from disadvantaged backgrounds, including women-headed households, caregivers, women with disabilities, those from remote regions, and customary communities. The discussion explored access to education, the importance of community support, and the impacts of intersectionality on women’s experiences. It featured a keynote address from the Government of Indonesia and a panel of experts that inspired dialogue, raised awareness, and identified actionable steps for greater inclusivity. |

Online Panel Discussion: Breaking through Universities for Women with Psychosocial Disabilities Panel Discussion on 19 March 2025 through Zoom |
In celebration of International Women’s Day 2025, the GEDSI Alumni Network, in collaboration with Perhimpunan Jiwa Sehat (PJS) and supported by the Australia Awards in Indonesia, held a half-day panel discussion highlighting the voices of women with psychosocial disabilities who shared their challenges and achievements in pursuing higher education, while scholarship providers and universities discussed their approaches to reasonable accommodations for students. The discussion featuring a keynote address from the Government of Indonesia and a panel of experts of alumni with psychosocial disabilities and whom are recipients of various scholarship and education scholarship providers and universities in Indonesia who underscored the importance of resilience, inclusive policies, and systemic support to ensure equal access to education and professional opportunities, reinforcing AAI’s and partners’ commitment to advancing gender equality, disability inclusion, and social justice. |

Hybrid Knowledge Sharing and Discussion: Understanding and Internalising GEDSI to Foster an Inclusivity on 5th August 2025 at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta & Zoom |
The GEDSI Alumni Network, in collaboration with Australia Awards in Indonesia and UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, hosted a full-day hybrid knowledge-sharing session to advance Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI). The event aimed to enhance alumni understanding of GEDSI, foster awareness and dialogue, and empower Australian alumni to contribute to inclusive development, while also strengthening people-to-people links between Indonesia and Australia. It featured keynote speakers from Australian and Indonesian academics, and the GEDSI Alumni Network steering committee, alumni panel experts in GEDSI and UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta's Centre for Disability Services and Centre for Gender Mainstreaming and Children’s Rights. Through this initiative, alumni were equipped to internalise and apply GEDSI values in both personal and professional settings, enabling them to become effective change agents for inclusive progress. |

In celebration of Indonesian Independence Day 2025, the GEDSI Alumni Network hosted an inspiring half-day panel discussion titled “Golden Indonesia, Inclusive Indonesia: Reimagining Freedom and Autonomy of Disabled People for a Truly Inclusive Future”, which explored how freedom, autonomy, and disability rights are central to advancing inclusion and achieving the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision. The knowledge-sharing event highlighted the lived experiences of people with disabilities and examined the roles of media, education, and economic participation in fostering inclusivity. Featuring expert alumni speakers, the discussion provided valuable insights on breaking down barriers, supporting equity groups, and promoting a fairer, more inclusive future for all Indonesians. |
