Geospatial Challenges and Opportunities for A Sustainable Future

Join the University of Melbourne to discuss the challenges relating to people, processes, technology, and data in readying geospatial information for emerging solutions – on Wednesday 22 September 2021, at 12.00 PM AEST / 09.00 AM WIB. From the complexities of governance and policy to the digital divide and mature data infrastructure, our panellists will examine sector-based solutions to these challenges now and into the future.

Digital geospatial information can contribute to sustainability in ways that were once unimaginable, from machine-automated urban land-use detection to intelligent energy and waste forecasting. The volume of environmental data flowing from sensors, satellites, citizens and models is growing exponentially.

But this has little value if it can’t be easily accessed, assessed, aggregated, processed, and passed from system to system to inform policy making. Managing and processing vast quantities of geospatial data for better urban decision-making and management, using technologies such as digital twins and AI, can offer immense benefits to our productivity, liveability, and sustainability.
