What we feed our children has a remarkable impact on public health, economic productivity and environmental sustainability. Baby food is also big business. As markets have globalised and grown in size, the regulation of commercial baby foods has become increasingly politicised.

Join this Australian National University’s webinar on 11 November 2021 12:30 PM AEDT as Phillip Baker presents findings from a study on the politics of regulating baby foods in global context. The findings reveal coordinated regulatory battles across international standard-setting and enforcement bodies, as well as within countries, as governments pursue, but often fail to implement, comprehensive regulatory frameworks to protect child nutrition.

Dr. Phillip Baker is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition, Deakin University. His research focuses on understanding the political economy, governance and regulation of food systems. Recent work covers the global rise of ultra-processed foods, corporate power in food systems, and the regulation of baby food. He is currently leading a multi-country study, funded by the WHO, on the politics of child nutrition. Phil teaches high-enrolling units on food policy and regulation, and international nutrition, and supervises six PhD students on these topics
