How civil society can best contribute to safeguarding the rule of law and inclusive governance?
Join us for the online guest lecture, ‘Negara Hukum: Civil Society and the Rule of Law in Indonesia’, delivered by delivered by Professor Tim Lindsey from the University of Melbourne, on Friday, 29 August 2025, from 1:45pm to 4:00pm (Jakarta time).
In this lecture, Professor Tim Lindsey will explore the historical path of Indonesia’s political and legal systems and will reflect on the evolving role of civil society in shaping the nation’s democratic future. He will also examine the competing political ideologies present at independence—including democracy, communism, Islamism, and Integralism—and how the rule of law (negara hukum) emerged as a guiding principle.
