Developing Sustainable Ecotourism Strategy as the Tool to Empower Indigenous Community Livelihood in Aceh Jaya District, Aceh Province.

Project Rationale:
The existing problems related to ecotourism are :
- Currently the awareness level of ecotourism in Aceh Jaya District is unknown because limited data is available. However, based on field observation and short interviews, it can be concluded that the awareness level relatively low. Currently, no marketing activities are executed to promote the destination. Visitor numbers do not increase and there are almost no new visitors.
- Lack of managerial capacity, and creativity in managing a tourism spot. The management relies only on the environment conditions and there are limited support services which are provided to the visitors. Moreover there is no strategic plan to promote the ecotourism destination and no strategy been applied to attract more visitors.
- Limited impact on the social environment as well as to the livelihood of indigenous people who live around the ecotourism destination. There is no strategic plan to involve local people to generate benefits for both parties.
Project Beneficiaries:
The proposed project will train 20 women and 30 youth as the target group for livelihood empowerment. Through the capacity building training, we will train 20 persons ecotourism management/staff.
