"Sampahku Sumberdayaku" Increasing West Lombok Community Zero Waste Awareness and Responsible Actions through Social Marketing Approach

Project Rationale:
People's lack of awareness has been a great challenge to the solid waste management system in Indonesia. It is not surprising that Indonesia has become one of the top three global ocean waste contributors and received global attention for its efforts in handling waste pollution. Following the national and provincial strategies for Indonesia Clean 2025 and NTB Zero Waste 2023, Lembaga Generasi Bintang Sejahtera is developing a Recycling, Learning, and Development (RELAND) Center to conduct awareness campaigns, knowledge sharing, skills training, coaching, and technical assistance in Community-Based Solid Waste Management. Our program engages local communities as our target groups to take initiative in establishing waste bank units in their neighbourhoods where people can exchange their sorted waste for cash, groceries, utilities, vehicle tax payment, or even small-scale investment such as gold coins.
However, the latest COVID-19 pandemic situation has greatly impacted our development program. We have to respond to this situation by creating new innovations in our awareness campaigns and programs because we cannot ignore the fact that the accumulating waste is getting harder to handle as solid waste may transmit the virus among people who are processing it. Therefore, we strongly need to develop a new strategic approach and methods consistent with COVID-19 Health Protocols to maintain our outreach and ensure people's safety while continuing the effort to turn waste into resources.
