Project Rationale:

Batu Kumbung Village has a strong commitment to meet the CHSE protocol to ensure that it’s a destination safe from COVID-19. The social dynamics related to waste management in Batu Kumbung Village are described as followe:

  • The community still has a habit of littering, which is becoming a threat to the development of village tourism based on CHSE.
  • Batu Kumbung is among the prioroty villages for tourism village development in West Nusa Tenggara Province. Even so, the communities in some sub villages are still unable to support the commitment to build Batu Kumbung Village as a tourism village because there is still a lot of garbage strewn around the village roads, irrigation channels, vacant land, etc.
  • There is no integrated Community Based Waste Processing Program to support the tourism village. Fourth, the community still considers garbage is a matter for the government of Environment Agency, not a personal affair, so when garbage accumulates and scatters in the street, the government is to blame.
  • There is no policy or regulation that regulates Community Based Waste Processing. Currently, Batu Kumbung Village does not have any policies/regulations that support waste management, so waste disposal behaviour is not subject to sanctions.

  • Pokdarwis (Village Tourism Managers) 27 people
  • BUM Desa (Village-owned enterprises) 8 people
  • Community (2.5% out of 7,528 people) which is 188 people
