Keeping The Final Pulse of The Fashion Industry-Sustainability of Tapis and Its Market Expansion

Project leader: Ms. Nola Marta Agustina Pantouw

Level of education and university: Non Degree, Queensland University of Technology

Collaborating Organisations: -

Project Location: Lampung, Australia

Activity Type: Research & Development and innovation

Sector: Activity Type

Project Rationale:

The applicant’s  previous project has improved the skill of 27 Tapis artisans in Lampung who still live in poverty. Despite their hand stichting techniques that have the potential of entering the luxury fashion industry, their   craftsmanship quality has not met what a luxury brand desires.

Most Tapis artisans  in Lampung only produce designs that they usually make and what their older generation usually made. This is why the wages for making Tapis are not competitive or higher than decades ago. The  current model  has served as powerful engine for Artisans' growth and development for the past 100 years in Lampung. During the project implementation, Tapis craftsmanship joins with Maduaro. It is very early stages in putting two heritages in Lampung in one piece of fabric.

Project Beneficiaries:

Artisans of Tapis and Maduaro, and future customers

Priority Development Area:

Human development for a productive and healthy society
