Bring Local Community into Global Market through Sustainable Bamboo Forest Method

Project leader: Mr. Budiyanto Dwi Prasetyo

Level of education and university: Master, International Development, Flinders University

Collaborating Organisations: Kanoppi 2 Project and Environmental Bamboo Foundation

Project Location: Ngada, Nusa Tenggara Timur

Activity Type: Knowledge and technology transfer

Sector: Economics, Small and medium enterprise development, Natural Resource Management, Trade

Project Rationale:

The project will provide an opportunity for the local community to generate more income as the selling price of bamboo increases due to implementation of  SBF method on their bamboo forests.

The project will help the Environmental Bamboo Foundation (EBF), that used to facilitate the SBF method within the private or communal owned bamboo forest in Ngada, to transfer its role to the community. This is more efficient than before because the EBF will no longer pay labourers for conducting SBF to supply bamboo to the company.

The project will help CV Indobambu as the bamboo off taker in Ngada to ensure that all bamboo supply from the community to their laminated bamboo industry has been treated using SBF method as they required.

At a larger scale, the project will support a central government programme named a Thousand Bamboo Villages.

Project Beneficiaries:

  • Local community, especially 4 households and its members including women and children under the house-based adat group named  Sao Neguwula in Radabata village.
  • Environmental Bamboo Foundation.
  • CV Indobambu.
  • Local and central government.

Priority Development Area:

Economic Recovery
