Collaborating Organisations: Bengkel Seni Millenial (Millennial Art Workshop)

Project Location: Lembata, Adonara Island and Larantuka, Nusa Tenggara Timur

Sector: Health Services, Maternal and Child Health, Public Health, Health Management

Project Rationale:

The 2021 flood in Larantuka Regency, East Flores and Lembata, East Nusa Tenggara caused trauma for children. Although psychosocial efforts have been made by the Millennial Art Workshop (Bengkel Seni Millennial) Community, children need media to voice their anxiety and erase trauma. The production of photo stories and documentary films is one method I have applied successfully for children who survived the earthquake and tsunami in Palu, Central Sulawesi, in 2018. Children are trained to produce photo stories and documentary films to build resilience to flood disasters and build campaign media to advocate for children's rights in disaster situations. Smartphones are owned by most of the flood survivors, but they haven't been utilised optimally to support child rights advocacy. I collaborate with Rumah Documenter to encourage children to use their smartphone technology to produce photo stories and documentaries about their lives in the face of the flood disaster. With photo stories and documentary films they produce themselves, they will be able to voice their rights in a straightforward and firm manner.
